Recommended books for children

  • Cheeky Monkey Manners Listening and Taking Turns by Lisa Kerr for children aged 2 to 5 years. These books are good for developing executive function skills, perspective and social thinking.

  • The Rainbow Brain by Sandhya Menon. Sandhya is an Australian author who normalises neurodiversity and frames it in language appropriate for children so they can relate.

  • The Invisible String by Patrice Karst. This book is a lovely way of connecting with and communicating to our children who experience separation anxiety.

  • Only for Me by Michelle Derrig. My kids and I love this book which includes interoceptive awareness. It is sweet and funny and introduces the 'safety team' concept.

  • Listening to My Body by Gabi Garcia. This book is full of interoceptive language and includes opportunities for personal observations and practice.

  • Dr Seuss books. Zany fact - Dr Seuss books include a tempo of approximately 94 beats per minute which emulates the heart rate of a pregnant mother.
